Start with a warm welcome

Koppie Koffie is a neighbourhood meeting concept where people can talk, ask everyday questions and practise useful skills at their own pace. The starting point is an in-person encounter, with patience and room for people who are less comfortable with digital tools.

Someone might bring a question about a message on their phone, share a practical skill or simply join a conversation. The aim is confidence and connection: people try things themselves, with someone alongside them.

A small pilot, prepared together

We are seeking a trusted local partner to explore a suitable place, a small volunteer team and a workable format. Simple prepared materials, paper activities and shared laptops are possibilities to develop together. No venue, schedule, equipment, funding or partner arrangement has been confirmed.

Before a pilot opens, the host and KopKen would agree responsibilities, accessibility, volunteer preparation, insurance and safeguarding arrangements. A train-the-trainer approach could help future facilitators pass on what they learn.

People stay in control

• Listen first and work at the participant’s pace.
• Let people handle their own devices and make their own choices.
• Do not take over banking, passwords or personal case files. Refer specialist questions to an appropriate service.
• Participation in any future research would be voluntary and separate from joining the activity.

Home visits are not part of an available service. They could only be considered later with a trusted local partner and clear arrangements.

Local experience, learning across borders

What works in one neighbourhood may offer useful ideas elsewhere. We want to explore transferable facilitator materials, simple evaluation and exchange between local teams. Local language, needs and circumstances remain essential. This is a possibility for future cooperation, not an active Europe-wide programme.
