Approach in development

KopiePaste

Reusable research across Europe. A shared core, adapted with care to local questions and contexts.

Build on a method. Make the context visible.

KopiePaste is a proposed research approach for teams that want to reuse a study design without assuming that every setting is the same. It connects quantitative measurement, qualitative enquiry and careful reporting. It is not a validated instrument or an operational Europe-wide research service.

A minimum comparable core

Partners would agree a core of research questions, definitions, measures, timing and analysis. Language, examples, additional questions and qualitative enquiry can respond to local needs. Each adaptation must be recorded so readers can judge what is comparable and what is different.

Translation alone does not establish equivalence. Wording and interpretation need review and testing in the intended setting.

From question to learning

  1. Frame the study. Clarify the question, review evidence and agree the design, responsibilities and data arrangements.
  2. Prepare the instrument. Review and pilot the questions, information and consent process before recruitment.
  3. Combine methods. A possible sequence is a quantitative baseline (T0), qualitative enquiry (Q1), a follow-up measurement (T1) and, where useful, a later measurement (T2).
  4. Integrate and report. Examine the quantitative and qualitative findings together, including disagreements, uncertainty and limits. Change over time does not by itself demonstrate causation.
  5. Review and reuse. Document adaptations and share appropriate materials and findings with participants and collaborating teams.

This is a design framework. The protocol for each study must specify its actual sequence and timing.

Support, expertise and independent review

Support may cover a complete study or one stage, depending on the expertise and capacity available. Assistance with drafting or analysis is distinct from independent review. Independent review requires a suitably qualified person, declared independence and access to the relevant materials; it must be arranged for the particular study.

AI may assist with drafting, translation, consistency checks, coding or exploratory analysis where data arrangements permit. People remain responsible for the design, interpretation and publication. AI critique is not independent peer review.

KOP-eration

We are exploring a collaboration layer for schools, civil-society organisations and researchers who want to adapt or replicate studies and return what they learn. This is an invitation to help develop the approach, not an announcement of confirmed partners or a funded network.
